Medcenter One Attains Charging Consistency, Realizes $29 Per Patient Revenue Increase
Capturing ED facility evaluation and management (E/M) visit level charges can be a daunting task, and one that required the time of 35 nurses at Medcenter One, a 232-bed hospital in North Dakota. Using this system, visit level assignments were often inconsistent, making the hospital vulnerable to audits. By implementing Picis LYNX E/Point® in only eight weeks, Medcenter One was able to deploy five certified nursing assistants (CNAs) for charge capture of E/M levels. The 35 nurses were then able to increase their focus on what they do best - patient care. Not only that, but there was an improvement in accuracy, a reduction in reporting time and a significant increase in net revenue for Medcenter One.

In an ideal situation, interfaces with other hospital software are used so work is streamlined and duplication of effort minimized. Sentara, a long time LYNX client, implemented Epic in 2005 and worked with LYNX to create such an interface. LYNX E/Point, which has helped bring Sentara an estimated $78.7 million in cumulative additional appropriate revenue since 2002, works in a seamless manner with Epic because of the Epic-to-E/Point interface.
