Overview
LYNXmark is the definitive benchmark for evaluating your emergency department’s effectiveness in charging for the services it provides and the resources it consumes. It is an index ranging from 1 to 100 that indicates emergency department revenue performance relative to a set industry standard. This standard is based on the LYNX client base of more than 400 healthcare organizations nationwide, representing more than 18 million annual emergency department encounters. We can measure your organization’s emergency department charge assignment effectiveness against its peers using the outpatient visit level distribution and admit rate data that you submit to us. The admit rate is used to measure the overall patient acuity of your emergency department so it could be compared to the industry standard. Once submitted, your outpatient visit levels are used to properly “rate” each visit level against relative weights published by CMS.
To determine your LYNXmark, we compare your average weight against the average weight from the benchmark. To put your score into context, the lowest possible LYNXmark score is 0. That score would represent an organization that assigns every outpatient encounter to the lowest level of service (99281.) The highest possible LYNXmark score of 100 represents an organization that perfectly matches benchmark performance. Since the benchmark is a pooled average of like organizations, an exact score of 100 is unlikely. A LYNXmark in the 90s is considered very good.
